Celebrating International Women’s Day 2023

Stephanie Beaumont

Scala Leadership is proud to champion International Women’s Day 2023 and promote the on-going growth in diversity across our specialist sectors. We ask Veronica Wells, Delivery Manager at Scala Leadership a few questions on her experience achieving success in the Technology and Recruitment industries, and what advice she has for women entering the workforce today.

Where did you start your career?

I started my recruitment journey with a specialised executive search company in the UK 13 years ago. Prior to this, I had worked in sales and project management across a variety of sectors. I’ve been working within the wider NP Group for 2 years as Delivery Manager and now I work for Scala Leadership, NP Groups specialist Go-To-Market and senior leadership business.

What attracted you to this sector?

Learning about different sectors, roles, engaging with different nationalities and helping clients and candidates through their journeys in finding good talent and career opportunities respectively. I can safely say what keeps me firmly attracted to Technology and Recruitment are the people – colleagues and customers. Every day is varied and has its challenges, but I have a great network of friends and colleagues who are there to help when needed.

What advice did you receive early in your career that has stayed with you?

No question is a silly question! Have a great attitude and ask questions, this will develop knowledge and bring confidence to your future roles.

Are their challenges or opportunities in working in a male dominated, or what’s perceived to be a male dominated sector?

‎Experience and knowledge develop confidence, your reputation begins to proceed you and people recognise that. I have never approached a situation thinking what my male counterparts would do, you approach it based on your experience, learning and personal development.

Have you ever had a mentor?

Yes, I’ve been very lucky to have worked with amazing people along the way. Equally my current friends and colleagues in both my present and previous employment have always been great in this area.

How important is Diversity and Inclusion to Scala Leadership?

Hugely important. We have many young women working in our business and not just the stereotypical admin roles. The wider NP Group has 50/50 split of men and women in addition to a very clear policy on Diversity and Inclusion. We really do celebrate and champion everyone!

For me, this makes the NP Group a great place to be part of.

On International Women’s Day, what is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers or is there anything else you’d like to share?

Be yourself, be inquisitive, don’t be scared to learn; be a team player. Connect, network and be honest to yourself. Be inspired, find what you want to focus on!
